the camera that goes to 1m fps

Vision Research, with their Phantom line of high-speed video cameras, has kind of outdone themselves this time with the Phantom v1610. A MILLION FPS. Imagine what people getting punched in the face would look like slowed down that much!   Truthfully, it probably wouldn't be that awesome. With high speed video, at some point, the law of diminishing returns kicks in. We all like seeing three seconds of jiggling Jell-O stretched out into a 30 second video, but think about it: three seconds of Jell-O shot at... [Lire la suite]

5 years ago... new project

I'd like to get into projects I've been thinking about for quite some time. The most difficult is to do the first step. So here I go, first step of my first project : 5 years ago...    The concept is pretty simple : posting 1 pic taken 5 years ago exactly.   Here is the first pic : Cosy Kitty, shot with a Sony Ericsson V600i (camera phone).

spring time

It's been quite some time since I last updated this blog... but I have not stopped taking pictures though. I guess I was too lazy to work on it or maybe didn't want to find the time for it.  Anyway, this morning it hit me : I have to do a blog update !   So here it is, a serie of shots taken in Farmleigh, Phoenix Park, end of March 2011. All pics mostly shot with an EF 70-300mm, f/4.0-5.6 III USM, and with spring on the way, there is a lot to be inspired with ! Hope you'll enjoy these few photos. As usual, feel free... london in black and white

Last weekend I've been invited to spend some time in the beautiful city of Queen Elizabeth II. I was really looking forward to it as I hadn't touched down in London in more than a year and a half.  London is such a beautiful city, so alive and creative, and when your tour guide is a great friend, it's a most ! Besides, it's just the country next door so you can get there in no time.   The weather wasn't spectacular = dry but very grey... so I thought it would the opportunity for me to try myself at... dublin docks in hdr

High-Dynamic-Range image... a very scientific name for a very simple technique.   HDR consist in taking 3 or more pictures of the same subject under different exposures (from the darkest to the lightest) and merging them in one to benefit from a single photo where highlights and darks are equally exposed.  You can check this post out for a demonstration of this technique.   Even though the photo might look a bit surreal at first, I surprised myself loving the result, making the subject a... the rule of thirds

I wanted to post this for quite a while now but I kind of forgot and the link got lost in my too organized favorites... so here it is, a basic rule in art : the rule of thirds.   Source : Wikipedia * * *    The rule of thirds is a compositional rule of thumb in visual arts such as painting, photography and design. The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important... [Lire la suite]

fiat lux (and then there was light)

Canon EOS 50D, EF-S 18-55mm, f/5.6, 1/1600 sec, 55mm, ISO 100   I have been playing around with my camera these days at night time, and I realised how important is the light in photography and what you can do with it, mess with it, deform it, and use it to make your pictures more "unique" !   I've tried a few things : long exposure with or without flash, with or without a tripod, and so on... I also shot at a very fast shutter speed to capture water drops hitting the ground and get this "splash" effect so popular... [Lire la suite]
